Our Services

Our equality and human rights services provide free-to-use support for minority ethnic individuals affected by discrimination, crime and human rights issues, as well as training for organisations, across the West of Scotland.

Individuals Affected by Discrimination and Human Rights Issues

This service provides minority ethnic individuals with:

  • an increased understanding of their rights and protections in relation to the equality and human rights issue(s) that they are facing;

  • advice and information that they can use to raise their concern or complaint;

  • an increased awareness of further support services relevant to the issue(s) that they are facing.

The service offers support through individual appointments and / or adult education workshops.

Individuals Affected by Crime

This service is for people who have been affected by crime, whether directly, as a family member or as a community member.

For example, a minority ethnic adult who becomes isolated at home because a crime was committed directly against them or a family member or because crime is happening in their local area and this makes them reluctant to go out.

It does not matter what the crime is, where and when it took place, how the person was affected or whether or not it has been reported.

The service offers:

  • one-to-one advice and information appointments
  • workshops on topics such as:
    • victims’ rights
    • accessing support
    • issues arising because of the impact of crime
  • MEVSS Information Station – an outreach session involving an advice workshop and a wellbeing activity

We are also a Third Party Reporting Centre, meaning that victims and witnesses of crime can report a crime through us rather than directly to the police. We can identify whether there are any Third Party Reporting Centres in a person’s local area if they would prefer.

  • an increased understanding of how to support their service users to become aware of, access and uphold their rights and protections;
  • information about equality and human rights support services that they can use to signpost their service users;
  • access to further equality and human rights resources to continue their own learning and development.
