Roots Scotland
Through Roots Scotland we continue to bridge the gap between minority ethnic communities and the heritage sector, in Scotland. There has been a continuing hunger amongst the heritage sector to ensure that services are equitable, diverse and inclusive and through the delivery of training, consultancy, support and advice we have been able to guide numerous organisations to better engage with minority ethnic communities and vice versa.
Examples of the type of work that we have been delivering include:
- EDI Training and Consultancy support to sector staff, with a keen focus on improving engagement with minority ethnic communities
- Facilitated workshops between key stakeholders and minority ethnic led groups to explore project ideas and scope for collaboration, through funding opportunities and otherwise
- The general promotion of the historic environment and cultural heritage to minority ethnic communities and address barriers to entry within the heritage sector

Feedback
"I had struggled with the application form, especially the sections on salaries, equipment and volunteer expenditure when filling. This ‘Meet the Funders’ session gave me confidence as it allowed me to see other groups were talking the same language when applying for funding. Very grateful to Aneel Singh Bhopal for giving our women ‘s group an opportunity to join on the day ."

'The event for the HLF funding information was a great way to actively meet new groups and organisations in a fun and informal manner. Through this session we have also strengthened our connection to the various communities in the wider West End of Glasgow. It has also helped us to forward-plan and strategically prepare for our HLF submission in the near future.'

"Thanks so much Aneel, we really enjoyed the training and I think it has sparked a number of avenues that we want to be thinking about and implementing. Our group WhatsApp has been pinging ever since!"
